"The Vitruvian Flyfisherman," 5 5/8" x 5 3/8", giclee, created in 2020, $75

The classic illustration by Leonardo DaVinci, depicting the ideal proportions of the human body according to a Roman architect named Vitruvius, reminded me of the gesture fishermen (myself included) often make to exaggerate the size of their catch. The Italian motto, mimicking Leonardo's famed mirror writing, reads "I swear to you, the one that got away was this big!" The fish is a brook trout native to eastern North America, salvelinus fontinalis.
